How to make a clay-like soft body simulation?

I’d love to make a soft body sim react like this:

Any suggestions for how it would work? I can almost get it, but the soft body still deforms too much like it is a tin can rather than a block of clay.

EDIT: I almost got there by using a Cloth sim with zero stiffness, but not quite… 95% there… any help would be greatly appreciated!
