How to make an object follow a curve (or a path)

I’m particularly interested on how to make an object follow a curve. Can someone tell me how to do this (the use of constraints is not mandatory, I just want to do this in some way).

And if someone could direct me to a site with tutorials about constraints I would appreciate (DO NOT send me to the blender wiki because that is completely in-understandable).

Click on the mesh, then click on the path, press Crtl + P and choose Follow Path.

Thanks! That’s half of the thing I want.

Now grab the blend file bellow and tell me how to make the whole structure bend as it moves along the curve (maybe with individual objects?).

In this case I would use a curve modifier and keyframe the movement of your object

WOW! So many info. Thanks a lot!

In the madagascar PS2 game, at the level before the end, there’s an occasion when Mort says “I did it! I can’t believe that I did it!”. Well, in this precise moment, I’m just like him. Thanks to all of your help, I managed to reproduce the file that Richard posted from the original one. Thanks a lot guys!
