How to make character hold something?

Hi!

I have trouble with character animation. I want to make character hold something(coffee cup, box, gun, ect…) on his hands and then drop it and take other thing. I have tried “Child of” constraint but it didn’t work (it jumps randomly other places and I can’t switch it off when I want). Is there any other and easy way to do this? I don’t want to start doing it manually.

Sorry if my english is bad.

There is a tutorial for this here http://www.harkyman.com/2009/10/23/how-to-pick-up-and-drop-an-object-in-blender/

I was about to ask something very similar to this. Thanks for the link This should work fine.

Awesome link. ty.

It said after you add the Child Of Constraint to “so press the Set Offset button on the constraint panel to fix it.” Well I can’t find the Set Offset Button. I am using the newest beta version of 2.5. I believe 2.55 is it there but called something different? If someone can post an image that shows the button I would appreciate it. Thanks.

The ‘set offset’ & ‘clear offset’ are in blender 2.49b child of constraint, in 2.5 it’s ‘set inverse’ and ‘clear inverse’. I’ve attached a file that shows this in action for you to pick apart and learn from.

Revolt_randy I know the buttons Set Inverse and Reverse Inverse I should do the rest from there thanks. Update I did a quick test knowing the set inverse and clear inverse and it worked fine. Thanks again.
