how to make water stop twitching in a simulation after the main motion has stopped?

I always get the edges of water “twitching” after the dramatic part of the simulation has finished. this is a pain and can ruin quite a few shots. Is there any way to de activate after a certain time? stop the twitching?

Sure, once you have a baked mesh you can create a new domain and make that domain read the cache. Once the cache reaches the end frame where you want to hold on the simulation apply the modifier. Now you have an actual statue mesh of the final frame of the cache. Simply swap the render flags from on to off for the simulation and the statue. This creates a final hold frame for as long as you need.
