How to model irregular patterns

Hello, i just started my first project in blender, and i want to go for a realistic version of a sword, but i got stuck trying to do some detail on the handle, i would like to know any methods to do this.

I need help with those floral patterns in the blade and in the handle.

You can use curves and shrink-wrap to the mesh, adjust to your liking then convert to mesh.
