How to only have certain bones affected by envelope weights?

Lets say that I wanted to parent an object to a rig using envelope weights, but I have a whole bunch of bones with wide envelope weights that I don’t want to have an affect on the mesh when I parent it. Is it possible to parent a mesh so only certain envelope weights are applied?
