Hello! I am trying to project some high res detail onto a low poly mesh in Blender. I’m new to this so I am following a tutorial, but if anyone has a better method I will definitely try it out.
So, I started with the high poly model then redid the topology. Which I then put on the shrink-wrap and subdivision modifiers. The result of it gives me the line that I want going down the middle of the tights, but it also has these other weird lines happening. I think it has something to do with the vertices because when I move then in a certain way in edit mode it goes away. However, it still doesn’t show the line in the tights even when I do so. I’m not really sure how to start fixing this. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks
Welcome ,
adding fine details to a low poly model from a high poly model is usaully done by normal baking. You may reconsider your workflow? (I wonder what that tutorial could show someone…)
hmm, I haven’t yet learned anything about normal baking yet. I will make sure to look into it.
This was the video that I watched to get this idea: https://youtu.be/sCdhkLUCV8A?t=268 there was also some similar videos that show the same kind of process
Hmm yes the retopology of a sculpted poly to a lowpoly is already made by snapping to the surface of the highpoly. So why go reverse and shrink the high to the low ??? (This part of the tut makes no sense to me).
Annnddd In the tut there is much less detail. You may rearange some vertices or smooth them out… but then you have your lowpoly and wouldbake the normal map from the high…
Well… after u did ur retopology u have to smooth the vertices in edit mode (i also did shade smooth) and then apply the shrinkwrap in object mode…
At least that worked for me
