I mirrored my model, and then stupidly did a “remove duplicates” on the ENTIRE mesh - instead of just the overlapping vertices. This removed a bunch of duplicate vertices that were being used to control the subsurf’ing.
And I don’t have any back up.
I know I can go and subdivide the edges and move the created points to where I want them. But that is a hassle.
Just curious if there is any easy way to do something like extrude from vertices in the middle of an object? That would be handy right now.
You mean remove doubles. You can only undo by hitting U if you are still in edit mode. However, all is not lost. Unless you changed your user defaults the Auto Temp Save in your info panel saves a copy every 4 min. So search your HD for .blend and look at everything saved as a number, eg 2345.blend. Sometimes they can be found in files you didn’t know were there.
You can extrude from any vert or verts that are in edit mode. But this may produce weired complications if you use subsurf on it.
If you have rebooted since your post, chances are your backups (in the temp directory) have been deleted anyway, as many OSes clean the temp directory on boot.
