How to remove something so I can animate it.

I am sorry if this question has already been asked, as I did look extensively without finding an appropriate answer. Here is my situation.

I have a single object model. I want to remove some parts so that they are their own separate object, so I can animate them separately. Or is there another way to animate separate parts in a single object?

Thank you for helping a Noob.

Weight paint the parts differently then assign them to an armature?
Or select the parts of the mesh to animate and split them from the original.

Split them, I guess. The parts are already ‘separate’, all I have to do is to remove them from their ‘mother object’.

All the ‘wing pieces’ I would like to remove from the single object.

In Edit Mode , you can select the whole thing and press P then select “By loose part”, and each individual pieces will become its own separate model

Okay, I got it. Thanks a lot!
