How to rename images or clips in the video editor?

How can I rename assets in the video editor/sequencer?
To clarify: I’d like to change the displayed name of the asset to a more useful name, instead of the default Path+Filename.

You can change the name in the “Strip” tab. But afaik you cannot disable the display of the full path after the name.
