How to Render a Preview in 2.5?

Hi, sorry if this has been asked before, but I can’t find an answer to this anywhere. How do I render a Preview in Blender 2.5. In 2.49 I can select (Shift + P) and a preview of my render will appear but (Shift + P) doesn’t seem to work in 2.5.

Wait until it’s been implemented in one of the future betas.

Richard

Aw Gosh I thought it was working! Thanks Richard.

Did we ever find a solution/feature for the small preview render (Shift+P) in Blender 2.5?

Still doesn’t yet exist in 2.57. On the todo list

If you mean the “render a small area” preview it’s SHIFT+B in camera view in 2.5

Jakerlund,
Thanks for the response. In previous blender releases there was the ability to render a small area in any 3D view. See these old release notes for an example:

http://www.blender.org/development/release-logs/blender-242/render-pipeline/

(Scroll down to Preview Render, 3D Window).

This is the function I was looking for in Blender 2.5x

Neil

kolban,
Cool, that would be a nice feature to have

My previous answer still stands, its still on the todo list http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Dev:2.5/Source/Development/Todo/Render#Rendering

Todo & notes
Add back the 3d view preview render

A bit of work around, I split a window in the upper right area, then change it to UV/ image editor window, and when I hit F12 I can see rendered image…not as handy as Shift P, but it works as a sort of quick render.

Perhaps a dumb question… I tried Shift+B and it worked well, but now how do I remove the red box and go back to normal full-camera rendering?

Use SHIFT+B and draw anything outside the camera view

I’ve been searching for this for a while now and it’s becoming a little frustrating. It’d be the only thing I miss from 2.49, where can I find the preview render?

On the page Richard supplied, the ‘add back the 3d view preview render’ has been crossed, so I’m guessing there’s either a button somewhere I’m missing, or there’s a brand new key combination.

where can I find the preview render?

The only option to get a preview render in 2.59 is to use one of the Cycles builds from http://graphicall.org/

Any solutions yet? I really need this feature, I wish someone has link for an add-on for Blender 2.59 and higher…

I’d say you’d be waiting for ever. Cycles is the focussed renderer now, not the old internal one. You’ll just have to adapt your workflow
