How to render a scene to project onto a sphere?

Hi all,

I’ve been looking around, but can’t quite find anything, so here goes.

I’m trying to make a background for the game Homeworld 2 - the backgrounds are just spheres, with an image mapped to them. I created an environment in Blender (the Ragnar nebula tunnel from the BSG miniseries), but can’t figure out how to render it right. I figure I just need to generate two 180 degree images, and I’ll be set. But can’t find out how to do that.

Read the skymap topic up above - the sphere map images at the bottom of the post are what I need my final result to look like.

Any help’d be much appreciated!
