How to render hair faster?f

I try to make realistic hair since a long time with blender. But The render is so long that make it Impossible to work with. Realistic hair need a lot of particules. I tried hair cards but it still long (in cycle) and not very realistic. It’s slow and veery difficult to manipulate (To comb) when you know exacly what you want.
I try to make a simple ponytail and it’s a mess to do specific things.
Do you know addons who can help me ? Even if I have to pay for it
