How to sample the actual vertex color?

I’ve asked before and can’t find the answer again.

I want to sample the color without shading.

Why isn’t this a default option? ‘Sample color’ is shown with shortcut in the color picker.

Just paint it from within Sculptmode, and and use the shortcut not the picker.

Thankfully, someone else introduced my add-on,

but there’s also a way to extract unshaded colors without using an add-on.

As shown in the attached image, you can set it to “Flat” in the Light menu under Solid mode.

This allows you to extract colors in Vertex Paint mode to obtain unshaded colors.

Additionally, if you change the Color menu to the Attribute option, you can ensure that vertex colors are always visible, even outside of Vertex Paint mode.

As a bit of a tangent, the video below is one that really shocked me when I first saw it.

It’s a tip about using the eyedropper, so I think it’d be worth checking out as well.

thanks for all the replies! Is there serious just no shortcut or way to add one for what I want?

Also, the vertexes are black around the edges of where i paint. like the fading isn’t to transparent, it goes to black instead and then transparent

Try to first apply a solid color everywhere before you start painting details. I don’t know if that’s what’s happening, but this sounds like a typical sign of patches of vertex colors being added in the middle of blank vertices with no data at all.
