How to Sculpt Frills?

Hey guys. I’m trying to figure out the best way to make clothing frills like in the top part of this blouse.

Does anyone know how to achieve this look with the cloth sculpt brush? I’ve messed around with it a little but can’t figure it out. I know it’s possible, because I’ve seen it done like this in a video by AskNK. However, they don’t really explain how to do this exact thing in the video: Desktop Screenshot 2020.06.10 - 12.47.33.37

That was a demo from Pablo Dobarro showing a new feature. Here the original: https://twitter.com/pablodp606/status/1233423811980267524?s=20

But back to your problem: what can you not do?

  1. Select mask brush and mask the part in the middle.
  2. Select the cloth brush and brush over it, may have to activate using mask as border or so in the option (Try different settings to have a better result)
  3. Profit

The problem is that just using the cloth brush as is doesn’t give me the same result. I realized there was a mask before posting, but it still doesn’t look right.

Just tried the settings in the Twitter post but didn’t get any wrinkles. Just got black triangles appearing where wrinkles were supposed to (normals messed up, everything starts clipping) or just no wrinkles at all.

Basically, the Expand Deformation doesn’t seem to work correctly unless I use of the other other deformation options first and then the Expand on top.

For me it works. He also used a subsurf on the mesh.
