The VSE is displaying a particular view layer from my scene when i include it as a strip. I’d like it to display a different one, but so far i’ve seen no way of specifying which viewlayer the strip should use.
Is there a way to do this?

When you have one scene with several view layers and press F12, all view layers are rendered.
But in VSE, a scene strip can only use one view layer.
So, view layer displayed is the first one by order of creation.
You can display another one by disabling Use for Rendering option under View Layer Tab of Properties for all view layers of scene except the one desired.
And if you want to play with several view layers of same scene in VSE, you have to create linked copies of scenes and keep only one rendered view layer per scene copy.
That is complicated because View Layer concept is relatively recent.
For upcoming future release, the end goal is to create a viewport compositor.
And there is no clear plan, yet, about how this viewport compositor will work with VSE.
