How to select faces without holding down shift?

I’d love to be able to select faces without needing to hold down shift. Box selecting does not do an accurate job. How to select faces just by Left click and dragging on the faces I want to select?

Have you tried using “c” to circle select? Press “c” , then adjust the size of the circle select by scrolling and select with either single clicks or hold down the mouse button to select by simply running over the vertices, lines or faces.
And de-select with the scroll button.

“select with either single clicks” When I do that, it selects only one face and automatically deselects the face selected before
