How to set texture as a background?

I want to set a picture of a landscape as the background of the render (ie. in the “World” section.) Is this possible, and will it reflect when I do an Envmap?

Click on the world button
Add new (like in materials)
Add new texture (also like in materials)
go to tex buttons -> image

Then you must tweak a little with the world buttons, they seem pretty odd to me. The env maps do reflect the background, but you can often see the skyBOX in the reflection.

Someone else please !

The cleanest way to do this is add the image texture (the same way as you do on a material), and then, in worldbuttons, turn off “Blend” and turn on"Paper" (on the top left) and turn on Hori (on the top right)
Then the image will be mapped directly onto the background.

I managed to cheat my way round it by just mapping the image straight onto the surfaces. However, I’ll go try the Envmap again with the background implemented, should give better results.

Hmm, I can’t see where to add the texture to the background :x

When you go into the texture buttons, click on the middle orange button on the left “world”

bah, all my textures just got utterly screwed up… they’ve gone green and really bright, wtf :o

Okay I’ve got my textures back (well kind of) but I still can’t get the background to show  Its just blank %|

Aha, got it now.

cool good to hear

Its just capturing the cubemap now. Sure takes a long time %|, mind you the cuberes is set to 1000. I need to do quite a few reflection maps, the hull is a bit shiny and there are a few metal and plastic parts that I need reflections off.

Hmm it just finished, looking good. It worked  Needs tweaking, the hull looks very polished but looks mighty fine. Thanks guys
