Can anyone help me to know the procedures of a light rig which happens to flicker (like that of fire flame or tunnel lights whose luminosity fluctuates) in Blender 2.5, real-time? Thanks.
If you want a light to flicker, do the following:
- Add a single keyframe to the energy of your light.
- Go into the F-Curve Editor and select your lamp. There should be a flat line representing the energy’s “animation” (not much of an animation, of course, at this point)
- Press the N key while hovering over the F-Curve Editor, which brings up the properties panel. Locate the “Modifiers” property in that panel.
- Click the “Add Modifier” button and choose noise. You’ll now see a squiggly line has shown up in your F-Curve Editor. That’s your light’s Energy value AFTER the modifier has been applied. Tweak the settings (especially the Scale and Strength) to get your desired effect.

Thanks for the quick responses. I tried Benu’s steps and it did resolve my purpose. Thanks again.
