How to show the outlines of my object (like in screenshots attached)


Just to give a bit of background to the project, I’m making a little cityscape in a Tron-esque theme.

The technique I’ve been using, is to wireframe the object and make the material shadeless.

I’ve downloaded this model of a Tesla Model X and it has a lot more faces that originally thought. So, I started going through the whole model and ‘Dissolving Faces’ to try and make it look more like this (this is the view I get when I select it in dev mode)

I’ve tried the real-time outline technique but it doesn’t work - I could be doing it wrong.

Is there anything you guys could suggest I try or maybe I could do something with driver nodes?
