How to Texture terrain with nodes and stencil/sun lamp?

Hey everyone I have been looking for a good tutorial to do this for days I know there used to be one here

http://www.benamend.com/2011/10/07/how-to-create-a-landscape-in-blender/

But the link is broken.

I am creating a small island as a crysis 2 mod and I would like to texture the terrain with nodes and a stencil method. does anyone know any tutorials? or a photo of a node tree? thats really all I need. Im pretty sure Andrew Price used the method to make his mountain tutorial in the nature academy.

I tried CGcookies island tutorial, great tut and ill likely finish it but its not what im looking for.

Thanks

Hi, is this what you’re looking for?

‘Blender 2.5: Splatting & Library Linking’

The ‘splatting’ starts at 7:00

No not quite, I need to use nodes to get the snow to mix into the dirt texture according to the slopes. In that tut (thats not there anymore:mad:) he used a sun lamp directly above the terrain to generate the stencil. then set up 2 or 3 node materials and blended them in.

I still cant find a tut for this. I mean really? The only one existing that I know of is in the nature academy. I thought there was someone on the forums that was experimenting with it but I cant find that either.

I don’t think andrew price did it this way, but one way to go about it, is to take a UV mapped object, use a black material, position your sun lamp ( set to white ) over it, set it to toon shading, go into shaded view mode, and bake the lighting. this will give you a map of where snow might fall/stick.

@Terminator

This is closer, but it isn’t the one you mean.

I followed a tut similar to what your talking about it maybe this one

Ah, yes I believe that’s the technique. I think the video that Terminator is referring to was by Andy Goralczyk.

Nice.
