How would I model this dragon wing?

I’m trying to model and rig a highpoly charizard for practice and I’m trying to model its dragon wing.

Should the verts of the ‘membrane’ part of the wing be attached to the bony part of the wing? Or can the membrane be its own mesh?

I think it depends on how you’re going to rig it.
If the wing membrane is treated with simulation, wouldn’t it be easy to control only when it is separated. :thinking:
