How would you create ripped, organic shapes like viruses, bacteria, cell bodies?

I’m sure there are some neat tricks for this. I know how to do simple displacement with textures, but I have problem with two other things.

  1. The effect of cell division or two, sticky surfaces dividing (like ripping apart a chewing gum) - those pulled strings.
  2. The splashed appendages sticked to the surface.
I think both these things are similar but I don’t know how to do this.

here is one book

and this site

http://www.bioblender.eu/

but could use dynamic sculpting for some parts
show us what you already made with some pics !

another things is that you could use the new micro displacement feature for some effects too in latest blender.

hope it helps

happy cl

Thank you for suggestions, but I’m just looking for visually appealing effect, not scientifically accurate. I don’t see the book and Bioblender any helpful with that.

As RickyBlender says, look into using Sculpt Mode. Check out the Snake Hook brush, turn on Dyntopo and select Brush Detail – then you can extrude filaments to you’re hearts content.
