Hello,
I wanted to model the Los Pollos Hermanos building, but I have no idea how to properly model its roof… Here are some photos:
(
look only at the red part of the roof )
The only thing I managed to made is sth like this:
It could work as a last resort, but geometry is really bad here, and I want to do it correctly (besides the fact that it’s just a simplification of the actual roof). When it comes to horizontal parts, I would figure sth out with either custom bevels or manifold extrusion. But I have no idea, but to smoothly connect that vertical parts. Any ideas guys? Thanks <3
add a curve with a bevel curve profile and it should work

I agree, but i would start with geometry then convert to curve.
Start with something like this:
Duplicate and separate the highlighted faces, and then add a solidify modifier so you end up with this:
Now you can add loop cuts around the entire thing and extrude the outer faces the way you need to:

Overkill. No need for using curves. This is a simple job.
I use extrude, inset face and bevel modifier to make it.
here is the blend file
roof.blend (659.8 KB)
Thank you so much, this is it! How did you extrude those corners, though?
Thank you guys! I didn’t expect such thorough help!
initial block
inset face with Boundary off
extrude faces with offset even on
mark relevant edge bevel weight to 1
add bevel modifier, choose bevel weight and modify custom profile
