howto create dangling rope between two points?

Hi

I’m looking for some advice about how to create a dangling piece of wire between two points.

I’m trying to model quite a few telephone poles on a street with wires dangling across the street. I’ve got quite a few todo and don’t fancy doing them all by hand. Similar to to this reference

How should I approach this? Nulls and constarints? Scripting?

thanks in advance.

you should take a look at these rigged vines from BBB.

I don’t know, it’s not my work, i just took the scene from the Big B Bunny open project files.

@rickyblender - can’t find the script you mention on the wiki http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Scripts/Catalog

don’t suppose you know the name of the script?

softbodys? nurbs?

this script is for unloaded chain wire rope

which is a a good approximation to the shape

i dont’ remember seing one for loaded rope chain or cable
but this requires a lot more math to do
and there are any parameters which must evaluated before doing it

in any case have fun with it
