HTC Smartphone Concept

I felt the need to make a “concept” phone. I don’t know why, but I did. I chose to go with an HTC design over a Samsung one because HTC uses metal. The speaker grilles are for stereo sound when watching movies, with the bottom one also functioning as a microphone. (Just in case anybody was wondering.)
Rendered using Cycles with a little over 100 samples.

If you told me this was a real photo, I’d believe it!

Good job!!

I can’t nail it down but something’s missing with your materials. Maybe it’s the low sample settings that make your screen not stand out and soften the metal on your speakers. But all the materials have some clay-ish similarity somehow.
This might also be due to your simple grey background , which illuminates the scene in grey and therefore steals both contrast and saturation.

I’d like to see the final render! Except for the camera, which might have been created a tad more easily as a second mesh, nice topology btw.

What really throws it off is the lack of reflections. Phone screens are shiny, and you seem to given the whole thing a dull look like it is made of a different material than what phones are made of. Hopefully that makes sense.
Good modelling!

agreed, although I’m almost certain it got reflectivity already (glossy shader?) , it just needs something to reflect. I’d just add some planes and position them above the model so it can reflect them (easily done with the real time renderer)

I put an emitter plane above the phone, so it should look a little better now, although the phone itself looks a little more flat. I might have accidentally, changed a material, so I will check that.

(This would have been posted earlier, but I tried to squeeze every last bit of battery life out of my laptop, and it died mid-render. Silly me.)
