Human Head without reference

Can you please move the light a bit? At the moment I have to set the brightness of my led-screen to 100% to see the right side of the head. I’m totally nothing at modelling human, but I think the modelling is good, but the hair looks like fur. Unless he has combed his hair a lot, the hair looks to uniform.

here, i hope this is better
about the hair… i spent alot of time tweaking all the settings to get something i like… i have tried a higher noise value but it looked pretty bad. as it is right now the hair looks like he has alot of gel in it, so i figured the uniformity makes sense (you mentioned combing)
what i’m having trouble with is adjusting the specularity to get closer to realistic hair.

The spec is too high, real hair isn’t that reflective, and the spec shouldn’t be white. Also, hair is somewhat transparent; you could achieve that with ztransp and turning down the alpha.

It looks too thick, few people have that many roots, especially in the beard.

The hair of head/eyebrows/lashes/beard all have their own unique attributes. I wouldn’t use the same particle system/settings for each.

Aside from that, looks good. Hair is hard, lot of tweaking. Even Hollywood fudges on hair all the time.
