Human proportions (nudity)

i know ,retopo is a real pain, but edgeflow and loop when thinking animation is somehow interesting ! dont hesitate if u need any help!

@malhomsi! thanks, man, my problem is always the workflow… Also, I don’t do for now the retopo to animate, just to have a decent base to continue with the details, and maybe bake some normal, or bump map. And the thing that always makes me cry is the shrinkwrap modifier… you have to make so many fixes… I use also multirres, that is a pain because you can not have shape keys, (I’ll love to have a shape key with the asymmetry, but go back to no asymmetry for the pores details) I think in the next one will try with just a subdivide modifier. but with a subdivide modifier I don’t know how to apply the skrinkwrap modifier and retain the details… so… I always get depress with this step.

After fixing the retopo, I made some advancement, I think I’ll go for details now, and then the asymmetry.

I really don’t like the expression… will have to tweak that…

Tonatiuh, great work on the sculpting so far.

A few suggestions if I may:

To my eye (and this one is subjective) the head feels a bit masculine. Look at images of male vs female skulls, and pay attention to the jaw area. Notice how male jaws are more square shaped with a wide chin, while female jaws are more V shaped with a smaller chin.

The crown of the head also needs to be pulled higher and further back. Eyes should be about middle between bottom of the chin and top of head, and the front most part of the ears should be roughly center between the forehead and back of the head.

Other than that, keep up the good work, amigo!

Hey, cgCody! thanks, man! You are totally right in the jaw area! but… my references has that kind of jaw…

I think the asymmetry will help with that, I’ll post later some asymmetry shots.

About the head… you are probably right too, I’ll investigate her more, but I feel that it will help me a lot to make her more feminine, because she will lose the enormous jaw in comparison with the rest of the skull.

Thank you very very much!

Well after some asymmetry work, and some pore detail, and refining the jaw, and the size of the head… I’m pretty happy now… some adjustment have to be done to the eyes, but I feel confident now!

Nice going my man!
Pay attention to how she squints her eyes in your reference! Your sculpt doesn´t and as a result your sculpts eyes are located way too high (outside the socket again  ) Also study “nasiolabial folds” more carefully. They are very important. They run around the nose in a way that is clearly sepperate from the nose and there is always a slight curvature to them. You will see if you look very carefully. Keep it up! :RocknRoll:

five stars for all the effort u r putting into this thread amigo!
@Pixelpete: a pleasure to read u sensei!

PixelPete! Thanks, man! I was aware of the eye problem but I totally miss the nasolabial fold!!! now that you tell me I can not unsee it, it really need a gap, and mine goes directly to the nose. Thank you!! Tomorrow I’ll try to fix both problems.
Sometimes I feel oversaturated and crazy of trying to make this studies on my own, with no one looking over me…
Also, I just need to put all my stuff together and make a method or something that help me not having to think so much, and just focus on the process.

Thanks!! you really help me a lot with your encouragement!!!

Excellent work as allways !
The eye socket seems a little too deep to me,but i’m not an expert, just my 2 cents !
Your thread is very good !

Hang in there my man! There´s a good old saying; “facts don´t care about feelings! And neither should you”. This is especially true concerning art. Here are the facts just to remind you of something you already know:

  1. The more you figure out on your own, the deeper your understanding of the matter becomes.
  2. The more you struggle, the stronger your personality becomes.
  3. The stronger your personality becomes, the better/more constructive human being you become in real life. That´s what it´s all about at the end of the day!

(oh and also: those who put in the extra grind in the beginning always end up dominating in the end. That is also true for art of course).
So I say this: keep your great attitude, stick to your guns and be proud of feeling oversaturated and crazy! Rock and roll! :RocknRoll:

@malhomsi: Thanks man, I´m very happy about that!

Thanks, Doisy Didier! yes, the eyes need some rework!

PixelPete! as always direct to the guts! Thank you! I’ll do! I’ll do!

I’m totally unsure of this one! the eyes are a mess, the asymmetries are weird, the expression is strange, I’ll stop for a little bit and get back to it with fress eyes. Anyhow, thanks to all, you push me to my limits!

So, I have been thinking about how I’m approaching my learning progress, and how I’m not really taking advantage of my anatomy knowledge, so, I decided to stop and start again! (yes… from the beginning)
Also, as I go I keep forgetting things and I don’t like that, so I decided to implement and register graphically the most important things that I am learning and that has real artistic application.
So the next images are going to be really technical, for those of you that know anatomy it will be probably just ok, but for thous of you that don’t know anatomy, it will be a greate resource.
So the next ones will be a young and old female (the same one) noting the differences, and I’ll construct a skull that fits her, and then I’ll build on top, the muscles, the cartilage, the fat pads, the glands, the retaining ligaments, and the skin that explains all the shapes, and the changes they made over the years.
Then I probably make a male version.
So my thinking on this is that if you study an older version of a person, you can see clearly the defining structures that make him unique and you can go with more precision to deliver a good study of the younger version because subtle anatomy volumes in youth are completely visible at an older age.
Anyhow, let’s see what I can deliver!

Edit:
PS: also I think I know what was my problem with the eyes… I was doing so many things wrong, I’ll elaborate more on that.

So here’s where the idea of Learning comes into play… practice until you have it solid in your memory… that’s where I’m not sure I understand the idea of not painting or sculpting ‘from memory’… because the more you do it… the more you remember how to do it… from memory…
saying this however… remember also… that when you practice… with or without resource material… your training your brain… memory… to remember what ever it is your practicing… so the more you practice with reference material in front of you the more you will remember how to do things in a more accurate way according to the source material… at some point in your career however you put the Source Material away and build your own creations… and that is what has the most value… but you never get to that point of having great looking human figures without the “practice” of using source material…

Great stuff Tonatiuh by the way keep up the good work!

Tonatiuh keep up the good work, your dedication to learn and get better is really inspiring to see. I was playing Star Craft 2 Heart of the Swarm a couple of nights ago and one of the characters in the game said something that I found funny and to be so true, to paraphrase Abathur ‘perfection is a goal we can chase but never catch’ so stay in the chase and keep improving.

@Norvaman! Thanks, I try… I try!!! practice from memory makes you better in what you know already, and it is important also, and you can relax. but study the observation and the human form… you have to use external elements… That is my thinking…

@Tyrant monkey! Thanks, man! Great to read that this help motivates others! Chasing chasing!

Some actualization, I decided I’ll finish this and send it to Rafael Souza, And then I’ll keep working on post 175

Almost there… I have to finish the 3rd module!!!

Well, it is sent, let’s see what Rafa Souza thinks about it.
