…for artists who died in 1924 are now free to use or repurpose in the public domain under U.S. law
It was reported last year that the Public Doman has finally stepped out of stagnation. This is only the second leap it has made this century.
We can thank Disney for single-handedly trying to tie it into permanent limbo, they have released a lot of old cartoons on Youtube last year, perhaps as a way to gain permanent trademark protection for Steamboat Willie and the other characters (as they would generate revenue again).
This system sounds so ridiculous.
but at the same time, I can see how they themselves (disney and co.) sound so old, so decrepit and stagnant, with their fixation to recycle and squeeze everything to the core, for a few more bucks, they look like a sect tinned in the past… to the point that other artists visually make fun of them.
I am sure that Bioshock infinite it’s a parody inspired by this ridiculous old unjust system.
