I’ve been playing around in DAZ for a while now and wanting to expand my horizons. My pc now does fine on the modeling (except the high resolutions on particles!) part. I just downloaded blender maybe a week ago, so, I’m learning.
However, when I go to render in luxrender or cycles (only cpu no gpu) it takes forever and a day!! lols
So, now I am looking for a new pc. I don’t want to go with mac cause I have no clue. I’ve never had one or even played on one. I’m not sure about building one either, I’m a software kinda gal. When it comes to hardware I am for the most part at a lost.
I just want to go out and buy a pc out of the box, plug and play. I’ve searched on hp.com and found a few gaming pc’s but I’m just not sure which one is best for the 3d modeling and all the other stuff that goes into it.
Budget isn’t an issue, I just need advice on what is the best.
First off, let me just say that I’m far from being an expert :o But, from what I’ve learned over the last year or so, “the best” is very case-specific. High-poly modelling usually needs more memory, whereas rendering needs a fast (preferably multi-core) CPU or GPU, and so on. Your best bet, IMO, would be to figure out what exactly you’re looking to do with Blender and other software. Or, if you don’t know yet, maybe a mid-range PC with more of a “do-a-bit-of-everything” setup could help you figure that out.
I have (what I think is) a mid-range Gateway desktop that I got at FutureShop (electronics retailer here in Canada) for ~600…not including those pesky taxes, of course. So far I haven’t been disappointed by it I also slightly modified it to be more Cycles-worthy when I started getting into that aspect a few months ago.
Desktops/towers often have the advantage of being tweakable. There’s a limit, of course, depending on each setup (compatible motherboards, maximum memory amount, etc.)
Anyway, that’s a bit of a short answer and I don’t know if it helps or not, but either way, good luck!
