Hypnotized

I created this little buddy some time ago based on the similar desginer toy from Michael Lau. I added some scene objects from previous projects and tested my new video card with it.

Love it… only 17 min render for 1000 sample using the GPU (card is a gtx 660ti). Coming from a old ATI without GPU this is a huge improvement.

I love the faceless expression of the kid hypnotized by TV programs…

All credit for the design of the toy itself (the real one… not the model) goes to Michael Lau and this is just a variation of my favorite one.

Hope you enjoy and critisize as much as you want

Cheers!

the mimic and face expression needs a bit of work, looks kind of squared  pretty cool scene, like that simplicity

Indeed, the room is very good.
You should work a little bit on the face and also try to rotate the head a little bit so that is looking at the tv (not sure if that is what you what or not)
Anyway, you did a pretty good job. The mood is interesting.

Agreed, I think the head should be turned a bit more towards the TV, or better yet, the TV rotated a little bit to line up with the head and the chair. I also feel like the TV should have a subtle glow around the edges, maybe a simple fast gaussian blur in the composite. Other than that, great job. Like the lighting and the materials a lot, and the concept is quite clever.

Hehe, I chuckled. I had to dig this out for you.

My only critique is even thought the style is simple, the environment should be filled in a bit more. It’s a brilliant idea and an excellent style to approach it with!

I’m curious… how much time rendering without gpu?

Great work! My only critique is the same… Turn his head a little more towards the tv and add glow to the screen.

Cheers!

Great concept. Agree on more of a tv glow which could act as a fake vignette. And the lamp material seems off, as if the lampshade is actually the emission material. Too bright compared to levels in the room. But overall excellent composition and solid message.

More skilled artists have covered the fine points. However what caught my eye first was the shoes and pance. the lack of any texture vs that beautiful floor. Just caught my eye only because you have it in the critique form.

Its a great style and it would be interesting to see this style in different scenes.

The only critique I could give is that the depth of field looks a little bit to highscaled. I think the background would look a bit better if it would be sharper.
