I am just starting and I did not get far

I am just starting and I got this:

Any suggestions?

Hmm, do you have python installed?

The key is “continuing happily.” Blender does not really need Python to run. It does use python scripts, a lot, but mostly for added functions and nice to have features. The basic modeling and material and animation package is all there and ready to go, “continuing happily.”

To get all the functions, download and install Python 2.5 as well.

Here is the real problem. After I click to close this window, the program shuts down.
There are two windows that come up. One is big and the other one is small. The small one is the window I have copied here. The big one is behind it and all black.
Is it supposed to be like this?

lol dude. this window runs in the background al the time. so you’ve got this window, the actual blender program and then when you render the render window. you’ll get used to it.

AND WELCOME TO THE COMMUNITY!!! and to blender…woot

Thanks.
I have taken your advice. But now the two windows stay open and black for quite a while. I do not think it is still loading after this much time.

Don’t close that window.

The big window should not stay black, but sometimes it is black for a little while while Blender loads. The big window should display the Blender desktop soon, but have a little patience and don’t close anything.
