I tried changing the render resolution X which is default 1920 to a larger and smaller number but nothing happens. The Y resolution does something.
Works for me. Share file? Doesn’t have to contain anything else but the camera.

Works for me using Cycles. Eevee seem to crash.
If you get crashes I would report it.
Other than that, in the viewport you’ll only see the aspect ratio those numbers represent. So 2000x1000 will be identical to 1000x500, but the actual rendered image will respect pixelcount.
The file is extremely crash happy for me though, in Eevee. Even if I load it up in my own setup without using your UI. My own files seem ok (haven’t tested thoroughly) in Eevee, although I’m a Cycles user primarily.
Thanks CarlG. I use cycles as well. I don’t know why it does not work on my computer. Odd.
