Hello. I started using blender a few months ago because I needed to finish a few things for a project, and back then, I posted this problem that I still have now. I did receive some replies, but I didn’t continue with the project until now.
I’m using cycles, and attempting to create a simple wide room, but the illumination doesn’t work well. You can see in the images below how the main light doesn’t illuminate the ceiling or the walls correctly, and I leave too how the door works with a light in front, to highlight how different it is:
If I increase the intensity of the lights, it illuminates the floor right below them too much, but it doesn’t reach the walls. Increasing the bounces doesn’t seem to work either.
I leave the .blend here, in case it’s needed. While we’re at it, I’d like to know how to make the column textures work well, since the picture shows how they don’t stick well on it. Similarly, I don’t know what’s the thing on the wall in the first picture, but it shows up every time I render it. I’d also like the light to not appear reflected in the walls as a defined blob like it is now.
That I want my ceiling walls to illuminate the room, but they don’t do it well. As much as I increase the intensity, the room remains darker than I want it to be, and the doors stay with that darker shade of brown. If I add more lights, the floor looks way too illuminated while the walls and doors still suffer from the same issue.
This is not related to your lighting problem, but I notice that the texel density of the wall is vastly different from the door. (In the close up, you can see the wall texture is blurry compared to the door.) Second, if you are going for realism, I question the size of the marble? walls. I may be wrong, but I think slabs of marble are at most 2 - 3 m and a wall like your scene would be made up of several slabs.
I notice that too, but I haven’t started dealing with it. It was the first texture I tried to add, and my goal was honestly a wallpaper kind of texture rather than a marble. I’ll later try others or separate the wall in chunks, as soon as I solve the more general problems.
I’ll update my problem, since that video didn’t work, as I don’t have a way to get light from the outside.
I’m not sure what’s causing this, but when I place a simple lamp below the ceiling, it only illuminates the right side, and not the left one, as shown below.
