I despise new UV stitching tools

Look at this image:

In any version below 2.62 I press V and Blender IMMEDIATELY stitches all the corresponding UVs for the same vertices, thus filling a hole you can see and putting new UV in the middle between old ones.
On the other hand, after new GSoC UV stitching engine improvements (really?) it won’t fill the hole for me, and as fair I know there is no convenient way to do that anymore. The new engine thinks that this is the same island and of course it cannot be merged with itself.

Please, tell me how to fill holes on UV layouts the old convenient way. Weld tool stitches UVs individually, the new Stitch won’t work at all. I’m nearly frustrated and going to roll back to the previous version just to save me tons of time of doing this step by step with Weld tool

After you hit V, does hitting (M) and (S) make it do what you want?

Yeah, thanks a lot.
I was switching these M and S modes before, but somehow it didn’t give the result I wanted, guess the issue is solved now.
