I didn’t realise just how crazy Google AdSense had gotten until I opened BA on my iPhone in a private tab today. The ENTIRE page was covered in ads. I looked into it and as it turned out, I had enabled ‘Auto Optimize’ at some point - and apparently THIS is Google’s idea of a well-optimized website - 100% ad coverage. I imagine it wasn’t great on Desktop either.

The crazy should be gone now. This’ll hurt financially a bit, but so be it. We’re making plans to ask for donations that will enable us to kick AdSense off the site for good. :crossed_fingers:

Yeah the Friends of Blender Artists ads are so much nicer! Google’s “auto optimize” would work better if they didn’t have dollar signs in front of their eyes. LOL :money_mouth_face:

Sounds good, I haven’t really seen what BA looks like with Google ads, but it will be good when they can go completely.

I thought that google would “help” someone to earn a bit money with this and not to drive away interested users and so possible supporters. So yes – i thought this google service could be useful. Silly me. :upside_down_face:

Well Google is pretty much corpo now, their idea of “help” is whatever makes them the most money. Their original ideals are long gone.

Ohh it was always a coorporation.. i’m aware of that. They make money with their adverts and need “places” to place them. So to get them one can “participate” with their AdSense to earn also a little bit.. but when this also makes ones site a bad experience for the “viewers” then this not only financial bad for the site ( aside from the loss of reputation ) but for google too..

But maybe they are too big already because people pay them for placing adds even if they are bad placed.. because google tells them they had placed ads.. and so gets their money anyway ??

So maybe the “advertiser” themself made a bad choice to pay for advertisment placement they can’t really “control” ?? It’s this believe/“mantra”/false advise ( especailly from paid advisores ? ): you do not exits if you are not on google, meta, amazon, ebay.. whatever..

It’s like the advertisment someone gets from time to time who lived in the house where i live.. but had moved already twice years before… the last one was to the graveyard.. (someone still sell his old adress).. :person_shrugging:

But that’s getting off/topic :wink:

I don’t remember them being this bad 20 years ago when I first started using the internet. Same with Microsoft or “Microslop” as they are now known as.

Oh, sure. I was thinking more of a ‘the last few years’ context. I have an opinion on this but will respect the ‘no-politics’ rule here :wink:

Ohh it maybe wasn’t back then when i “discovered” this search engine which got much better results then :thinking: Yajoo!, Lycos, Altavista, HotBot.. and… oh my.. i better do not count the years decades..

( Weirdly enough.. half of the mentioned seems to be active > !? :rofl: ..didn’t know that because using DuckDuckGo since years and especiallu with no-ai).

I know what you mean, the same story was with one of my clients. She activated that ‘Auto Optimize’ thing too and then suddenly ads started showing up in random places here and there and the whole website turned into one big ball of shit.
