I wouldn’t call this the greatest planetoid in history, but for whizzing by in the background it wouldn’t be too bad. I made it in about 5 minutes, so how diIID I do it? Here’s a mint…er, hint… I did it the same way I did my moldering gelatin balls.
let me guess
u used mud pumping or mump bapping
BM
I’m not saying I did and I’m not saying I didn’t, but try to reproduce my planetoid in 5 minutes and you will fail. :Z
i’m guessing it’s yet another sphere with texture.

Plus interesting lighting.
and maybe a few (or just one) scaled and transparent copies for the air around it.
i give up.
modron you are the king of the world.
this is the most fabulous thing i have ever seen in blender, i shall hearby quit blendering as i can never ever compeate with such a professional as yourself.

Ok I shall reveal my extraordinary secret:… [!]
T-clouds texture plugin. It rules, also very versatile, yet I never see examples of it,…?
<edit> oh and the halo is just a couple of circles, subdivided a bunch of times, and tweaked.(with halo texture of course)
<edit> and alltaken, judging from your response, you may have missed this>>
I wouldn’t call this the greatest planetoid in history
I’m not blowing my own horn here, just trying to get people interested in some of the resources that are available.
Thanks for reminding Modron, I will be using that plugin starting right now.
There is so much information and stuff about Blender that are buried deeply or just forgotten all around, for at least newbies like me
no no modron you have it wrong.
thats the ONLY thing i saw
HA HA HA HA
was just teasing you
Alltaken
Hey what’s that on your shirt? >doink!<
well…I don,t want to destroy your minute of fame…lol…but the T_plugin series are used by lots of dude around lol…including me…I know @ndy use it alot for his rocks and terrain too…and i’m sure there’s alot of other dude that use it…but oh well, yea it’s good to point it out for others
x-w i dunno if i have the t-series plugin but what is the difference between it and the normal clouds or whatever???
it might look cool for the exodus dome i am doing
Alltaken
Alltaken, it uses more memory, but it allows you to use the clouds tex to make a proper bump map,…great for terrain.
proper bump map in what way??
doesn’t the other do the same?
Alltaken
No, the regular clouds texture has some effect, when nor is pressed/adjusted, but it’s not really bump mapping.
<edit>
here’s the difference. clouds with nor on max, and Tclouds with nor on max.
Modron, Same tequnique i used on a plasma ball i made a while back, too bad i didn’t see the post sooner i might have guessed it.
heres a link to the pic for all interested. and sorry for posting a pic in your topic.

had a good animation with it but it took forever to render on the crappy machine i had at the time.
MacBlender
I’ve noticed it is a very flexible plugin, in that depending on how you tweak it you can get quite a lot of weird effects.
yeah it is, if you use multiple instances and aniamte them seperately using offsets it makes a good water like effect. although too many ruins it, only use 3-4.
MacBlender
i didn’t have that plugin… so I used magic instead.
I also used world “stars” in background, to create the feeling of real space. as in reality.
