I have a very basic question.. help?

Hello, a rather experienced blender user over here.

I switched to 3ds max recently to try it out, got used to its shortcuts, now I realized I don’t like it, so I’m heading back to blender. And I’ve forgot the shortcuts. One of the shortcuts in 3ds max was when in the top viewport for example, pressing ALT + W Will bring me back to the 4 viewports where I can press ALT + W on a new one to fullscreen that specific viewport. But I’ve forgot how to do that in blender? What’s the shortcut? Thanks.

Ctrl-Alt-Q

Hmm, I don’t remember the shotcut being that big… and it doesn’t exactly look the same as it did before. Is there another one?

no

No, there’s something wrong, there must be another one. CTRL-ALT-Q is longer, plus that quad view isn’t the same one I had before…!

There isn’t. You’re asking a basic question but refuse the answer. That is and has always been the shortcut for quad view.

If you’ve been using an addon that does something else, or have changed the shortcut in the past, no one else can know which or what you might remember.

I can guess though. It’s possible to split the view and use shift+space to make one take the window area. No one needs the quad view anyway.

Thanks for your answer, even though i’ve not found it yet, I didn’t mean to be rude.

Thanks anyway.

I have to admit, having used Max, and more extensively, C4D previously, I was a bit miffed that quad view wasn’t the default in Blender. Right now, I’m struggling to remember ever using it in Blender. I just use the numpad to get the view I want.

Keep in mind you can always check it out what is the shortcut defined for this action in the option:

View>Toggle Quad View (Ctrl+Alt+Q)

Even if you change the shortcut it will show to you what is the updated version.

And by the way, you can always right click, hit “change shortcut” and set up to Alt+W. That’s what I’ve done here, Ctrl+Alt+Q is a bit long to such a simple action…

Shift+Space with mouse over the selected viewport, pressing it again will change it back.

Doesn’t work when you use quadview.

I came to Blender from Lightwave and I almost always used a quad view since LW is a much more difficult modeler to use IMO. With Blender, since it’s a very versatile and intuitive program, I never use quad view and I never thought that would happen. Granted, sometimes you need to see multiple sides of a model at the same time, but for me it’s a rare thing. Using the numpad to change the views is the best thing since sliced bread. Sorry for the interrupt.
