I have no idea. Too new!!!

I am so new to the 3D experience that half of the terminology used in 3D software programs i just don’t get. Maybe that is why I’m missing something when it comes to the blender home page. It has links on how to install Blender on OSX 10.3 put i can’t seem to figure it out. I downloaded the program just like it instructed to do. when i double click on the blender app. icon or the blender player app. icon nothing happens. Can anyone help me?

hi

can you please go to utility and open the console.
than start blender and check what pops up in the consol
log window.

in case blender does not start there will be an error message!

Thanks for replying!

When i opened the utillities folder and launched blender, in the window of the utillities folder it says so much. What i could make out of it was it said “can’t open library” and “no such file or directory error= 2”. The thing i don’t understand is that i did exactly what the website said to do.

Well, I hope this is easy to fix…

Now, for myself, installng BLender on my eMac was quite easy. The rendertimes are a bit slow, but that’s the price of using a computer that only does 700 MHz. After downloading the file and unpacking it, I simply made a new folder at this location:

/Applications/Blender

and put all the files from the download into that folder. I keep it in my Dock too, so I can easily get to Blender whenever I need or want it. My own advice would be to set your User Defaults for render output to a directory you can actually acces (the default, /tmp , is inaccessible under OSX without going through Terminal); I would recommend something like this:

/Blenderfiles/tmp/render
/Blenderfiles/tmp/image
/Blenderfiles/tmp/picture

or

/Users/(Your User Name)/Blenderfiles/tmp/render
/Users/(Your User Name)/Document/Blender/tmp/render

Just a small bit of friendly advice. My own Default render output goes to

/Users/(MyUserName)/Blender Files/tmp/render

If you still have problems, I’ll try to help as best I can. I may not be an expert, but I’m a year past my noob phase, so I’m glad to help out.

Are you telling me to try and put the downloaded blender folder into a new created folder in my apllications folder off my hardrive or the applications folder off my users folder? I’m fairly new to OSX as well so i see two applications folders and have no idea how to set my User Defaults. I am a bad case of what you call a rookie, but thanks to you i’m getting a little bit better. Thanks.

P.S.
Although i have OSX 10.3, I tried downloading the Blender version for Mac OSX 10.2 and it opened. It doesn’t have the blender player in the downloaded folder though. Is there a reason for all this?
