I am racking my brain trying to figure this one out…
I need to export a simple animation out of a set up .blend with multiple view layers, a couple of sequences, and 2 or 3 node set ups for exporting…
the question is… how do I effectively manage to do any of these things separate without having to break the blend file up… at the moment, I just need to render a single pass with a light set up to comp later… but it will render the same pass 2 times… pressed for time, and cant really problem solve to the best of my abilities, because of a deadline… I read somewhere that if you want to render just one of the render layers, then just click on the button on the node in the compositor… that is all well and fine if its a single image… but how do I chose to just render the animation of that render layer? I know its staring me in the face.
Blender 2.81 This should work, though I’ve not used it. Properties > View Layer Properties > View Layer > Use for Rendering
If you uncheck the Use for Rendering box, the the active view layer will not be rendered.
but say if you have two view layers…
is that what “render single layer” means…
and how do you tell blender which one to render…
would imagine the one selected…
I will have to research.
thanks for the info
this is my initial set up… at the moment, I just need the diffcol rendered out quickly… low samples and just a file output node. it renders fine to /tmp\ via the menu save (why if I am just rendering to a node that I would have to render from menu as well?) But there is nothing in the base path coming from the file output node. I have used it before with success, but its failing me today.
if I just wanted to bypass the node export given its not working, how can I just render a png of the diffcol?
I do love this program… started about 30 years ago on 3ds… in DOS, moved to max, then c4d and Maya, but the fundamentals of blender are based on logic, and I like that… just working out the logic at the moment.
im bafffled. if I open a new blend file… set up a simple file output node… it all works fine…
all I can figure is that when I decided to start a new (with this job)… (select A, X) deleted all the nodes, and began a new tree from the add menu… something was deleted that makes the activity now not render out from an output node.
If you look at my screenshot you will see View Layer on the top right, this will be whichever view layer you currently have active. These settings apply per layer, so simply change layers and (un)check the Use for Rendering box.
If you only need one file output per frame you can simply change the file path in Output Properties > Output then use the Composite output node in the Compositor.
Beyond that I’m not sure how it could not be working, so I can’t really help there.
