I tried so many time puting an avi into blender, i just found out on the internet that blender cant play AVI DV format what ever that means and that i need a AVI RAW footage what ever that means too…
i Just want to place AVI into blender so i can contune my projects that i want to do, can anyone help on finding a codec i just dont want to mess up my computer downloading the wrong codec and messing up my AVI footages.
No you need to re-encode your video into a format Blender can read. AVI is just a container, it doesn’t specify what’s inside… You already have RAW, as in, hey it’s raw video. So re-encode your DV footage using one of the many video encoding programs out there.
I assume you use Windows? Check out VirtualDub. Blender also supports and understands Motion JPEG AVI video, which is much much smaller than raw… if you don’t need the quality of raw, really, why bother? (And VirtualDub supports MJPEG with no add-ons needed.)
Converting to RAW AVI is a secure setting to use, meaning that it will work, however the size of that file will be very large. Non-compress videos work better in Blender, because you don’t need to uncompress them during the rendering process.
What is AVI DV? I have a DV camcorder and it sends a video signal to the software (via FIREWIRE). I choose to save it as a Raw AVI, then edit it to my liking. From there I usually save it as NTSC MPEG2 format for DVD archiving.
i kinda understand, i have a dv camcorder and when i connect it to the computer i use window movie maker to grab the clip i want from the camcorder and the format comes out DV AVI… so how in the world do you get Raw AVI…?
