Hi !
I need help, to be guided to fill in those gaps in a 3D sculpture that I need to prepare for printing. The model is already well made, with the holes filled and it is a solid piece. However, I need to eliminate those gaps of the model “and stick them more to the body”, since 3D printing Will be used to créate silicone molds and the silicone would get into those gaps and then it would be imposible to take off.
I attach an image so that I can be better understood. After filling in those gaps, I would have to do a remesh again I guess. There are many gaps to fill and I wanted to know if there is a way or tool that makes my job easier. Thank you very much for your time.
Yes, that is precisely an issue, because the model was given to me by the client and it was very poorly done. I had to fix it a lot and it has no vertex coherence (loops), it is very complicated to manage it by vértices because there are so many and all poorly distributed. That’s why I wondered if there is a tool in Scultp mode that can be used to “add” and fill material, as if it were clay.
You can paint masks/facemaps on the back, (inset a bit from the edges) and extract as new geo, then extrude it until it penetrates the other surface (and make sure you extrude the front as well until it penetrates the back of the flowers.
Then you can remesh and finesse it with the sculpting brushes. It will be a tradeoff between filling the gaps and making it look good by hiding/disguising it as best you can without leaving too much overhang for the mold
Boolean the lot when finished.
EDIT: looking at it again, is this all a single watertight mesh or are the flowers separate/non-contiguous?
One thing that might work would be to make a very, very, high-poly sphere around it and shrink wrap it, making additional fixes with sculpting as needed. It’ll be super laggy but it’ll be watertight
Hi! Thank you for answering yes it’s a good idea, I’m a little tired of this model and simple things like that don’t even occur to me anymore. I’ll try it. Yes, it is a single mesh all together, the client already sent it to me like this.
By hole you mean deepenings?
While there are also other options to get rid of them, there is such a brush, its the “Fill” brush, it should be what you want.
Of course! My native language is Spanish, my English is not very practiced and for convenience I use the translator. Sorry if the right words are not used. Exactly, they are not “holes”, they are “deepenings”. “Recovecos” le diríamos en español Argentino.
That brush does what I need, thank you very much, I try it now and I confirm how it goes!
Thank you very much, now it seems to work. I think I’d tried it before, but it didn’t work like it did in your video. I don’t know the reason. I never use Scultp mode. I have an XP-Pen Star G430s pen tablet but Blender doesn’t seem to recognize the sensitivity. I’ve already tried setting it up with Wintab but nothing. I think when I tried that brush I did it with the tablet, now I did it with the mouse and it works pretty well. I will also try the other options and share the results. I think they can be used in the future for someone else.
Hello!
Yes, I updated the drivers.
The problem was decreasing the sensitivity of the tablet from the driver! It seems that Blender multiplies the value it emits. I increased it and it was fixed!
I’m sorry I didn’t comment earlier, I was very busy!
I’ll tell you, I finished the work and it was perfect. I tried everything they suggested and the solution I found was to use Metaballs, remesh and different Sculpt brushes. This was the original model, it was a mess and even had internal geometry:
