i need infos about blenders history

i know i know i should know it

but i totaly forgot about who realy owned blender how it was sold and released to opensource and gpl or gnu or hahaha i just dont know it.

BUT

i need this infos for an artiocle i write about blender to make it more known.

can somebody please give me some cutting edge infos about blender history?

Blender’s predeccesor was called Traces, i’have seen it running on a Irix workstation. It looks just like Blender only the graphics of the interface are realy bad compared to the new Blender interface ;). If i’m not mistaken the current raytracer in blender originally comes from Traces.
