I plan on writing a book about blender basics and I need to know if yall would rather have it about 2.49 or 2.5? Personally, i dont know much about 2.5 because i dont like to use it.
Ayyone new to blender, which I assume would be the target of your book given its title, would be using the latest version of blender.
If I´d be you, go for 2.58+, there are a lot of differences now, the GUI is a lot cleaner and is so much powerful, almost everything is animatable, the bundled scripts are easier to use, the drivers are 100% easier to setup, and the list goes on and on; yet, you may be surprised that they are very alike, just get use to it by making a small proyect, like modelling and texturing something and the rig it, to get your feet wet on the new design, and you will be fine in few days.
Go for the newest, 2.49 was damn good but even I, found that the advantages that thousands of revisions later gave to Blender things that few could have imagined. Just look for the upcoming GSoC proyects in 2011!!!
And, for last , you will find a lot more people wanting your book for the basics, if it´s based on the most advanced version.
Regardless if anyone likes the new interface or not. It simply makes no sense to write a book on things that are marked as deprecated already.
The only choice you really have if you want 2.49 is to add a 2.49->2.5 transition reference into your book.
As this is more work and might be confusing for beginners I would say, do not do that or keep it separate.
cool, then i will start with 2.5 and maybe transition into 2.58. if not, then ill do 2.58. thanks everyone. and thanks @Antholocousse for telling me about 2.58, i didnt know it was comming out ^_^.
There’s a release candidate of 2.59 out now…
