The only good thing in the shot is the bike, which i modelled and textured months ago. Ive failed something like 3 times to build any sort of scene for this that doesnt suck absolute crap. The lighting is piss-poor, the bike is “floating” after an hour of frigging with lights trying to put a bloody shadow from it that looks decent, and the bricks refuse to make shadows. The fence looks like ass, and well, it sucks.
But i spent all damn day on it, so im showing it off anyway.

Take a deep breath. Try some of these projects out to see if you can recreate them in blender. Maybe you can improve your production.
Well it looks good to me,…but then, I suck,…no, but seriously, the place where I see room for improvement is in the background, which is completely dark. It seems like it should have some blurred reflection of something, or the distant glow of neon, or maybe some steam rising out of a manhole or something.
Ignore the bike. Look at the scene. Its my fatal weakness with blender, i can build some specific object, make it really detailed and cool, and light it really well when its floating out in nothingness, but as soon as i try to build any sort of scene for my object, i fail miserably.
maybe ill just DoF it and hope nobody notices…
man, i know you said to ignore the bike. but with a anime fethish as big as mine i just needed to tell you that that bike looks exacly like the one in akira.

May I suggest a Tron kind of approach to the background, rather then a dreary alleyway?
Or maybe some glowing nuclear by-product dripping off the case.
I have to things to tell you:
1.- Key-Light
2.- Difuse Light (hemi)
Key-Light: Firsr, you need some light source that is more or less places on the same place than your camera… it doesn’t need to be too bright, just enought to be noticed… I guarantee that it will take care of the ¨floating¨ bike.
Difuse Lighting: Try adding some subtle hemi lights on the background… maybe blue toned since your scene is on the night. … rembember, the keyword is SUBTLE, nothing too obvious.
The bricks are producing all the shadow that they will ever produce… unless you place a strong spot-light exactly over they… and that won’t look pretty.
Finally, there is a light comming fron under the door in the brackground… that needs URGENTLY to be changed into a hemi light… I suppose it is the reflection on the floor of a light bulb on the ceeling… but such reflection won’t be powerfull enought to cast those shadows.
