I turned a .rar file from Turbosquid into a .blend file but it wont append into my scene

Hey everyone. I am having trouble importing some rails from turbosquid into blender. I unzipped the rar file and now its a replacing the entire scene. I am trying to import into the grease pencil part. Also Im a beginner. Can you help? Here is the file https://www.turbosquid.com/3d-models/3d-model-railing---balcony-1313285

You can normally open it with blender. Select the object and press crtl+c. Open the blendfile where you want to import it and press crtl+v.

Not sure what you mean by you unzipped it and it replaced the entire scene. Did you just opened it?

If you’ve purchased the file from Turbosquid, they will do conversions for you.

I tried copying and pasting it, but it wont let me scale. Once i try the pieces break up, and I joined them before.

Turbosquid will take ages for that at least in my case they did… still waiting.

Anywa, so you can import it but you can’t scale it as a whole? Add an empty, select the whole object you can’t to scale and then the empty. Press ctrl+p and parent it. Now scale the empty and you can also move the object by moving the empty.

Hey thank you! This works but it turns out the copying and pasting breaks the thing up instead. Any insight on how I can append this because i cant really figure out how to get the whole railing in? I cant seem to append it and when I try and select mesh and its its part the thing is broken up as well/

Hmm, so your blend file is a 2.69 version, no problem for blender. If you open it, of course it will replace the scene (that’s the way it’s done, even in a simple tect editor). If you try to import it, blender will only import other formats, you have to append it in your scene. Properly blend file → Railing (or badly named cube… have a look for names before while opening it). The vocabulary blender (and sometimes other SW) is using has a meaning, so it would be easier to help if we use the same.

I don’t understand what your problem is when you append.

Maybe a tutorial can help
