The laser turret was a staple for lightweight portable defense for the US military in the Great War. Highly sought after, it was produced in great numbers and due to its excellent durability, most of them survived the nuclear blasts. What remained of mankind after the war, most of them living in small patches of land free of radiation - found them to be an extremely efficient defense against marauders.
