I took me a long time trying to figure out something that seems to work, but I’m not so sure if it actually is correct. The ICARUS example files don’t share the same origin point, so I could not use the reconstruction example with the calibration one. Besides that, when trying to create new meshes for the reconstruction, I experienced seemingly random crashes, so maybe it is better to wait for the next ICARUS update.
As for reconstruction, when loading a VRML file output by ICARUS, you might not have noticed that the camera is actually also imported with the correct orientation, but it might be on a different layer as another camera.
This might be an easier option than the script, even movement will be sort of imported as a SET of camera’s.
Everything now works as it should , Simon Gibson of the ICARUS team helped out with the FOV calculation, so it works correctly again.
I also added a new option, feature point data can be imported as a mesh.
Sorry to revive this thread from the dead, but I didn’t want to start another one. I was emailed by Gregory Harbin who actually wanted to use the script, and found that it didn’t work any longer. The ICARUS fileformat seemed to have changed a bit and so the script refused to import the tracking data. Now solved and works again.
I clicked on the link but its not there. I know iptic is gone, is there another place I can get the latest version of this script? If you have no place to host it, can you email it to me?
I didn’t update my old site in a long time, and besides that, quite a few people seem to have problems donwloading from stompages as well. Maybe it’s time to move again, my site needs a complete redesign anyway. In the mean time, it’s no problem if anyone else puts it on his/her website.
Hey eschelo since iptiic is now down forever is there somewhere else that we can view the mpg you listed in the original message?
lf export? what is that? never heard of it…
Anyway, everybody, thanks for the comments, I now have Publisher, so I was able to make the changes required for it, it should now work without too many problems, although Publisher seems a bit buggy. So it can happen that you will get crashes, especially with existing Ipo’s without curves, but I can’ t really do much about that…[/quote]
It was nothing special, it is just the ICARUS building example from the blendfile. I used sticky texture mapping to map the first frame of the original video to the imported building mesh, just to show projective texture mapping and that you can use a single image (which has a single viewpoint) to texture several meshes at once and still view it from different view points, within a certain margin of course, it can’t magically fill in the the parts not seen in the image.
The ICARUS program itself can extract textures from images as rectangular uv texture maps, and also fills in the gaps better.
I would have still like to have seen it. I guess I can render it myself if its in the blend file. The reason I would have liked to have seen it is that I am and intermediate blender user and would have a little foggy on what ICARUS does over what can be done in native blender
In that case the video is really unimportant, the main use for ICARUS is camera tracking and you can see an example of that directly from the blendfile by pressing alt-a and compare it with the original video. The only difference with the mpeg is that it uses texture mapping, which was done with Blender, not icarus.
See the icarus ‘reconstruction’ tutorials for more on how to do the same and better in icarus.
