Icarus Dreams - Casual Psycadelic Game

Hello!

I’ve been working on a side project with a friend. First we wanted to make a program that could somehow induce a hipnotic effect on the subject that would use it. Because we are adepts to practices like auto-hipnotism and controled altered states of mind. We decided to make this little program.

Using it for that purpose would mean that the user should somehow has all his atention towards the monitor. What could be better then making a game to achieve this! So this is a kind of game but with other purpose.

The gameplay: the player has to join the two origins of light particles in the center of the screen to advance more difficult levels. In more advanced levels there is added more motion and more geometry objects. Cube, pyramids and spheres that when intercepted with the light will cause alteration of the path\ scramble the controls\ change the direction of the rotation. All to difficult the objective to put the two origins in the center. Kind of hard to explain the gameplay but i hope i’ll put some .blend soon.

Here are some screens:

I’ve heard of programs that can make you think you’re on drugs without taking drugs, I’m not sure how a computer program can put you into a meditative or hipnotic state unless you somehow stimulated areas of the brain.

If I used it as a tool of spiritual awakening and meditation I’m doubt my father would approve of it, I can’t discuss other possible uses because now he says he’s reading everything I type on these boards.

No, this game has nothing to do with Kid Icarus. I also played that one during my childhood  I choose Icarus Dreams because of something funny i discovered while experiementing with a level of this game. The level consisted of a constantly rotating scene with a lot of stars. After some 5 min i stared at a door and it seemed moving and rotaing. So i got this idea to work on more levels to tweak the visual perception.

Then i thougth of making a level that could induce lucid dreams or astral projections after playing the level and making some meditation or tecnique to actualy lucid dream/project… so i thougth of the name Icarus Dreams, because the idea of flying (Icarus) and dreams (lucid dreams).

There will be no music in the game. I think players should think of it as a program and not actually a game. There will be only a kind of mentally synergetic background sound kind like in the Brainwave Generator program.

Cyborg Dragon: In my opinion a program can induce an altered state even if it doesn’t affect directly the chemistry on your brain (like in drugs) but will affect indirectly because of the distorced visual perception and so your brain (with some meditation) can react and produce itself that desired hormones for altered consciousness. If the program produces sound then i would give a different reason. If you are interested in a sound related program search for Brainwave Generator.

You should look at the Electric Sheep screen saver. It’s alot like this, just not meant to induce hypnosis (it’s an evolving fractal generator)

Look at the first post for the download link. Tell me what you think of this little program… it is for windows only, but the blend file is also available so mac users can try it as well.

Things of interest to look at the blend file are the fade in\ fade out (credits to facemania), the save\load game system (credits to Lagan).
