Well, the environmental lighting has a pretty big impact on the visual appearance of ice, so as long as you have a scene around the ice, it shouldn’t need an HDRI.
If you have no scene and no hdri, it’s not gonna look good.
Thanks by your reply, SterlingRoth… Yes, there is a complete scene around the ice. I´m trying to create a Game of Thrones world intro like, so I have a sphere (water), and inside is everything else.
Of course the HDRI map does nothing because the sphere (water) blocks it.
This video is just a test. Shaders, animations, etc are still in progress…
If you check at The Wall part, that ice shader is looking very bad. Maybe the fact that the land of the planet just covers a little part of the water (GOT map shows the human being known land), and the rest is just the water blue color? If almost all is blue, there will be no details in ice shader?
BTW, this is my 6th month with Blender (Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects before that), and I have no idea of UVMaps, Shaders, animation or anything… What (honestly) do you think about that video test? I love constructive criticism, so don´t be soft with the answer…
